MG T Type Racer

This model uses an old Matchbox kit of a MG TC as its base. It has been built as a pure racer with all unnecessary parts left off.

The main piece of surgery was the removal of the front wings which were moulded with the front of the chassis rails and cover. Without the wings to support them the lights and horn were not fitted. Standard fitment for this type of racer is an oil cooler in front of the radiator. This has been modelled in plastic card with wire pipe.

The ? chassis wheelbase was 2mm short but rather than cut and lengthen it a piece of brass tube was glued just behind the guide pivot to hold the front axle..

The wheels and tyres are from Pink-Kar and look the part. The green and red paintwork is based on a car I remember seeing race, but as the picture evidence car showed that it had red wheels the model became a hybrid as I didn't want to paint the chrome. The chrome on the radiator is quite bad compared to the standard MG TC although it doesn't look so in the pictures.

The tonneau covers most of the interior with a slightly lower tray on which the driver is mounted. This also allows the dashboard to be seen. The substantial roll bar is a necessary modification and has been put to good use during runs. The motor may have to be replaced as it gets very hot - this may be due to the narrowness of the body, there is very little space around it.

The driver has a Scalextric body with an Airfix arm. The other arm is hidden under the tonnaun. Seat belts were added with Milliput and as I couldn't write the harness manufacturers name on the small space I just put the drivers name on.
