MG Mini ?

I  had heard a rumour about this car which was supposed to have had an Elf type rear end and grill. I have searched the web but was unable to find any information except for the following that has been provided by members of as has the photo on the left.

If genuine it was known as the MG M type, only 5 cars were made and at least 3 were put in the crusher. It has a normal mini rear end and front similar to the Elf version with a MG Grill. Running gear was 1071 Cooper S.

The car was featured in MG Enthusiast Magazine June /July 1987 when owned by someone from the Norwich area. The magazine posed the question MG-Mini spoof or or proto M-type? and was not convinced it was genuine. The top MG man John Thornley and MG historian Wilson McComb could not recall a car being developed. This car was built around a 1959 shell. Main doubts surrounded the grille and plastic MG badge and the fact that the BMC drawing it was based on was from April 1967. It had acquired an Oxford registration (245 MWL), presumably to add credibility but which does not fit with either the date of the shell or the date of the drawing.

My model is based on a Scalextric Mini. The original radiator grill was removed and the gap filled with plastic card. The new grill was cast in resin using a TC grill to make a mould. After gluing to the front milliput was used to build up the bonnet and fill any gaps. The two spot lamps came from the Mini and have been painted to represent the checkered covers that were popular in the 70's. The bumper over riders are from an Airfix MGB and the other additions are just pieces of wire. The figure's heads came from a Reprotec Seat 600E.

The large wheel arches were cut off leaving a small ridge of plastic that was carefully carved to continue the body seams. The lip on the wheel arches was made by gluing a narrow strip of plastic card round the inside of the arch leaving a small edge projecting for the lip..
The wheels and tyres are the standard Scalextric items with hubcaps from the Dapol MG TD kit fixed in the centers after covering with "Bare Metal". They are very authentic looking from the side but are much too wide really. The car was sprayed red with "Bare Metal" used on all the chrome parts. The interior is done in red and grey like the Works Monte-Carlo cars.
There are two main errors to the car. The rear bumpers are yet to get the over rider treatment and the dashboard which I painted to represent a basic Mini dash and now realise that it would probably have had a wooden one like the Elf version..
