MG LOLA EX 257 SPORTS CAR
Sonoma 2003

For 2003 Scalextric forgot about Le Mans and went for two cars from the American Le Mans Series.

One is the Banana Joes's/Intersport Racing MG-Lola owned by the father and son team Jon and Clint Field. They were the second privateer MG team after Knighthawk. It was a test drive in the Knighthawk car that convinced them to purchase the car in 2002.

The second model is of that run by the Dyson Team.

I have very little information on either of these cars. The Banana Joe one changed its livery a number of times during the 2003 season but from what pictures I have seen both cars appear to be in the liveries they had at the race at Sonoma

Scalextric have made a great effort with these MG Lolas cars but there are a number of inconsistences that would have made them better. As mentioned before the red arrow pointing to the tow hook was printed on the Knighthawk car but not the MG. Above in the center is the knighthawk seat that has the lola emblem printed on it. To the left the MG seat without and to the right the seat padding that I cut from a photo of the MG version, complete with Lola logo, and stuck on the MG seat. Even the same mould wasn't used for the drivers. Some have their legs cut off above the knee, as above, and others below.

Short History of the Scalextric MG Lola

Scalextric introduced the first two models in December 2002 as limited issues each of 5000 Sport versions. There were a number of complaints about the distribution of these models which unfortunately led to speculative selling on EBay and the like.
