MGCs

The MBC roadster built from the Airfix kit but with a bonnet that I modelled and cast in resin. The rest of the car is straight from the kit.

The chassis is from MRRC. I have been looking for a suitable one for some time but the only direct replacement I found was from an early Scalextric, and as explained on the MGB page I think the more commonly used Metro chassis is too short.

I had been planning to use a Ninco Ferrari 166 chassis as the wheel base is just that bit longer than the Metro and would allow the larger diameter Ninco wire spoked wheels to fit without rubbing with minor body modifications.

Steve from Traffic then recommended this chassis with MRRC wheels and tyres which being narrower than the current styles look more authentic. The chassis is perfect but I'm still not convinced about the wheels.

This chassis having the motor in the front allows a near complete interior to be fitted. The driver is from a Pink Kar VW Beetle. Although she already has a shortened body a few modifications were needed to convert her from a passenger to a driver.

If you don't want to convert the Airfix kit see the link to Traffic below for their version.

The MGB GT Body is a genuine garage kit and consists of a resin body shell and vacuum formed window unit to enable you convert the standard Airfix MGB Roadster into a GT. A limited instruction sheet is provided. It is sufficient for the additional work that resin requires and should enable anyone with plastic modelling skills to make this car.

My copy required a lot of tidying up at the edges but this is not unusual with this type of item. The edges are sharply defined so this is not a problem. The detailing of the kit is also very clear .

Having built this kit I have a few criticisms which include the height of the rear MG badge - but you can read the MG initials on it. Having now added the MGC GT letters to either side of the badge it doesn't look so prominent.

I have not made this type of kit before so the fit of the vacuum formed windows may be due to me rather than their design.

The plate that the rear light lens fit on are too wide, plus the chrome surround has been modelled on to the body. If I had realised this before painting I would have filed off as the surround is also cast onto the lights.

The bonnet is my casting of the C type and the chassis is the same MRRC one as used for the roadster. The body must be a little wider than the Airfix one as the Ninco Wheels fit after they have had a bit of triming.

This MGB GT conversion kit was manufactured by Onethirtysecond, who I understand, as at Nov 2008 have ceased trading. They had other models including a F*!D Anglia, Vauxhall Viva, Hillman Avenger, 1968 VW Beetle and (do I really have to say this) a number of Tri....phs.

Their website is still on line so please click on the image for current details.

When you contact them - Please tell them you saw the car on this site.

Traffic have now developed a model of the M.G.C. 3 litre roadster with half tonneau.

It is sold as a resin body/interior kit and designed to fit on an M.R.R.C. chassis (which is included with the kit).
