MG Maestro Racer

This car is a basic Maestro shell and driver platform with new mounts so that it will fit onto a SCX Renault Megane chassis. Again I have used my own castings of lights and spoiler.

The body height has been raised slightly so that the wheels fit without the need to modify the wheel arches. A pair of large bore exhausts fill the resulting gap at the rear.

The car is loosely based on pictures of a number of cars raced by Moto-Build Racing - they still race MGs but now its the ZR. A common feature was the chequered front and name on the rear door and back panel.

A problem I have found making my own decals is the pixelled nature of images produced by PC paint programs which means that edges are not as smooth as I would like.

My attempt to copy the Moto-Build logo failed dismally so I choose to copy the style rather than recreate a specific car. The "Jak's Motors" is the best of a number of fonts that I tried.

I liked their pink car but didn't have sufficient pink to finish the complete car so I over sprayed the front white. I tried to get a gradual change of colour but this didn't work as well as I hoped. Due to the multi curves of the car I placed the checker pattern lengthways rather than diagonally as on the real models, extending it back to cover the paint merge.

The rest of the decals are a mixture of my badges, Pattos sponsors and MRE racing numbers.

The larger wheels are from Ninco. I found them at a swop meet and felt that they looked different enough for this model.
