MG 6R4 (Corrected scale???)

I believe that I have been doing Team Slot an injustice for the past few months when I said that their model was too long. I have recently found a book on 4WD Rally cars which details the 6R4s developement. The first cars did use the Metro body so that the Scalextric is a correct scale model of the prototype cars. The definitive MG Metro 6R4 'homologation car' had 3.5" longer wheel base and increased track and wheel arch extentions increased the width by 2.75". The Team Slot version being longer and wider than Scalextrics is therefore also correct to scale.

I will now be able to build my Team Slot kit without having to cut and shunt it. Unfortunately my comments about the state of the kit still apply.

The kit is the Computervision car from the 1986 Monte-Carlo Rally. I don't think that I will build this though as the decals applied to the Belga appear to be yellowing and a couple have not conformed to curves and are peeling off - they have the thickness of stickers rather than decals.

The resin shell of the kit version is very pitted which is a shame as efforts have been made to put a lot of detail in to the model. The thick paint work on the RTR models must just be the manufacturers quick way to hide these faults. The kit headlamps are vacuum-formed plastic sheet as are the vents in the rear windows.

The front spoiler is just a strip of plastic card which has been cut too long and glued in place causing it to bulge out. This is a fault on the RTR versions

There is a lot of work to be done to correct all the casting faults. I would also like to add the engine detail at the rear.

I have some pictures of Peter Lloyd's car which is plain white, has 5 spoke wheels and very little in the way of sponsors logos to spoil the look of the car so may make his car
