1977 Beach Buggy

Beach buggys were originally sold as kits that you had to build yourself. They started in America in the 1960's and have continued to the present day. They were at their most popular in the UK during the 1970's. One maker was Bugle Marketing and Development and their kit was intended to be built on a shortened VW Beetle chassis. The kit cost about £300 to which you needed an old Beetle for the chassis and mechanics. They made great but not practical fun vehicles although many were never finished. The idea is simple but it takes a lot of time and effort to actually complete.

The model uses the Airfix Beach Buggy kit kit and runs on a shortened chassis the make of which I cannot remember. I am using 4X4 wheels and tyres at the back (I have unsplit tyres to fit when completed) and Metro ones at the front.

The motor is in a cradle and is free to move with a strip of rubber to act as some form of suspension? (see photo). I intent to build the beetle engine and fit it on to the back of this cradle in the hope that any movement gives the suggestion of the engine vibrating.
