1956 Export Model

A big change to the body shell came in 1953 when the size of the small rear window was increased by 25% by the simple matter of removing the central pillar. A redesigned body shell was introduced in 1957 with a larger square rear window.

The model is based on the Pink Kar Beetle which has been modified to represent the 1956 model.

The new oval rear window was made by cutting out the central pillar and carving the plastic to follow the lines of the frame.

The characteristic VW twin exhaust pipes were not introduced in 1955, so the mistake made by Pink Kar in their model didn't have to be modified..

The bumpers were made by modifying the Pink Kar originals, which have been covered in 'bare metal foil'. The bumpers from the Airfix kit would be a suitable alternative.
