1948 Standard Model

Between 1942 and 1944, 630 'sedan' Volkswagens were built, all with shielded headlights and some with notek lights. A map table with fittings to mount a machine pistol underneath on the passengers side . Again they were all destined for official or military use. These vehicles were very utilitarian with little materials to provide comfort. These few vehicles were built alongside Kubelwagens and the amphibious Schwimmwagen, as they all used the same components

After the war the production of the beetle was encouraged by the British Army who had taken over their premises to repair military vehicles.

The first years of production 1945 to early 1949 were basic cars which became known as the Standard Model. In 1949 an Export model was introduced with a better level of equipment and finish.

The model is based on the Pink Kar Beetle which has been modified to represent the 1948 model.

Very little had to be changed to the model. One exhaust tail pipe was removed and the banana over-riders fitted onto the bumpers.

Before 1949 only poor quality matt finish paint was available and Beetles came in either grey, blue or black. The model is finished in a matt black.

The dashboard has been changed to the correct one for this year.
