The Watch HQ

The current Watch HQ is in Pseudopolis Yard,  a high rent area of town opposite the Opera House. This building was originally given to them by Lady Ramkin after the incident with the dragon.  It is a complex of buildings surrounding a courtyard in which can be found such necessary equipment as targets for archery of the crossbow type, Vimes' sedan chair, signal apparatus, carts and other items. There is a water trough outside the square barn type building.

The semaphore signalling tower  is operated by gargoyles who sit on the lookout for any of the Watch who might signal them using the two white table-tennis like paddles that they carry with them.. The top part of the pigeon cote is greased to stop gargoyles getting in. Josiah Frument & Sons, Seed Merchants provide corn for the pigeons

An air tube message system is used to connect the various buildings. The pneumatic tubes run round the inside walls of the courtyard just above head height and one on the diagonal goes up to the top of the semaphore tower. Constable Keenside had all his teeth knocked out when the brass and leather construction speaking tubes and pneumatic messaging system got mixed up. Rats are known to nibble at the tubes.

There is a canteen run by Mrs Dodger.

The HQ is base for the  Dept. of Forensics (alchemy), and Traffic Division run by Colon and Nobby, known by the carters as Sleeping Policemen. They have clamps and cones.

Vimes has an office upstairs and works with the windows open. To foil assassins the house has loose tiles and drain pipes, mortar etc. and ornamental railings under the windows. There have been at least 9 assassination attempts on his life and at one time the Guild fee was A$600000. The contract has now been put into abeyance as his death could upset the current political standing.

The plan is based on the model of the Watch House as made and sold by The Cunning Artificer. I have not included any pictures of this model as I don't have permission to do so. The illustration in the Watch Diary is of the main building in Pseudoplis Yard.
