Granny has been painted "straight out of the box". A lot of the Clarecraft figures are in poses that make it difficult to change without major surgery being undertaken. I have painted her in black but used a deep purple to highlight. I didn't want all these figures in black clothing to look too a like. |
Design Notes
Granny Weatherwax
Daughter of Violet Weatherwax and initially trained by Nanny Gripes. Village Witch of Bad Ass in the Kingdom of Lancre. Her brother was at one time the Archchancellor of Unseen University, and her sister a fairy godmother. She was at one time romantically involved with Ridcully Mustrum the Universitiy's Archchancellor's. Granny's special talent is to be able to get into the minds of animals and bees.She has silver grey hair drawn into a tight bun at the back, which when let down reaches her waist. Granny is quite attractive and not as old as she would have us believe, has difficulty growing warts, with the complexion of a rose, all her own teeth and piercing sapphire blue eyes. Quick temper, competitive, selfish, ambitious and sharp tongued. Strong boots with thick Lancre soles, crescent shaped skuds and hob nails and complicated iron fixtures and toe caps like battering rams. Has a much repaired broomstick that needs a run to start it and flys bolt upright on it. Uses eight hat pins to hold her pointed hat on and has a crescent shaped brooch to hold her cloak.
When picking herbs from her garden Granny uses a knife and holds a chair in front of her with a leather hat, gloves and apron as a second line of defence. They are not your usual herbs, some did have flowers but others fired thorns at passing birds and others were stacked so they didn't escape.
Given Carmen Maranda type hat by Mrs Gogol - 2 foot high mostly pineapple. Has pomegranates, lemons , grapes hung over her ears, cherries, only fruit that appeared to be missing was a melon.
House - Has a bleached and spotless table. The foundations for her spring hat, which like a true witch she makes herself, is of lengths of black calico and strips of willow wood on a battered wooden cone on a stand.

Sharing the mind of an animal during which time the body has the appearance of being dead so Granny holds a card saying "I ATE'NT DEAD" when doing this.
Lady Lilith de Tempscire/Lily Weatherwax
Elder sister of Granny. A fairy godmother who uses mirror magic. Looks like a younger version of Granny with the same bone structure and complexion, the odd laughter line and winkle, and sapphire eyes. Face of one used to giving orders, i.e. not round and pink. Hat with brim and veil. Small leather case similar to a musicians piccolo case with a wand in it, the twin of Magrats with moveable gold and silver bands.
